ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS for LYNN GROVE VA HIGH SCHOOL

SEPTEMBER 2008

In deciding which students are to be admitted at the transfer age, priority is given to applications in the following order.

  1. Children with a Statement for Special Educational Needs.
  2. *Up to 15% of students on the basis of aptitude and interest in Mathematics, Science and Technology.
  3. Students with a brother or sister who is attending the school in the September of transfer.
  4. Students in the transfer age group at either Woodlands, Wroughton, Hillside and Homefield Primary Schools, including those from the special support centre at Wroughton who are considered by the support centre to be capable of normal high school education and who would have Lynn Grove designated as their high school.
  5. Students in the transfer group according to the nearness of their homes to school. This is calculated by the Local Authority on a straight line “as the crow flies” basis.
  6. Students for whom an appropriate professional recommendation is made for their admission on medical grounds.

Should the total number of children in 1, 2 and 3 above exceed the number of places available in the school, preference will be given to those who have attended the feeder schools and according to the nearness of their home to Lynn Grove High School.

Students who are deemed to be ‘looked after’ will take priority over the above criteria.

Admission at ages other than at 11 years of age will be based on the ability to accept pupils into existing groups without prejudicing the education of the applicant or existing groups.

An Independent Appeals' Panel will hear appeals against decisions not to admit.

* Parents who wish to apply for their child to be considered for admittance under the criteria for aptitude in Mathematics, Science and Technology (up to 15% of intake) should obtain an application form from the school. When completed it should be returned to the Headteacher by 30th November of the year prior to transfer. Details of how these students will be selected are outlined in a separate document obtainable from the school.

Application must be received by Norfolk County Council whether or not you have made special application under the aptitude criteria in Mathematics, Science and Technology (up to 15%).
