Creating a positive attitude towards maths starts early at Lynn Grove!! The department works hard to create a positive attitude, encouraging, identifying and acknowledging progress and effort. These are just a few of our annual activities. Year 6 Maths day - The department and year 11 pupils visit year 6’s in our feeder middle schools to give them a taster maths day full of fun and activities.
Numeracy Summer school – Around 40 of our more able new intake are invited to attend during the last week of august to aid transition. Activities include cookie maths, sewing dodecahedrons, puzzles games and trigonometry!
Year 7 maths Day – All of year 7 take part in maths activity day in their first term. Activities include pirate logic, giant soduko, maths language songs and creating pupils own maths games.
Year 8 Reward Day- Selected pupils are invited to join Hartismere high school in unusual activities like symmetry dances as a reward for their hard work.
Year 9 Reward Day – Selected pupils are invited to work with Cliff park pupils on an interesting day of mathematics.
UK Mathematics Challenge - The UKMT mathematical challenge offers an opportunity for our talented mathematicians to shine on a school and national level. The Junior (year 8) and Intermediate (years 9, 10,11) maths challenges lead to bronze, silver and gold certificates of merit for the top entrants and progression into the European Kangaroo championships. We have had great success at all levels.
