ICT Programme of Study: Years 9-10 and 11 Print

The programme of study for our Years 9 – 10 and 11 have been carefully designed to go with and complement the study undertaken by our students in Year 7 and 8. The programme of study and our choice of offering the ICT OCR Nationals for our pupils was based on the increasing use of technology in all aspects of today’s society. Our aim is to make the Lynn Grove students leaving school at the age of 16 confident, creative and equipped with an essential skill for life and for the world of work.

The OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT has been designed to develop pupil’s personal skills in areas applicable to any workplace and build up their ability in communication and carrying out tasks relevant to the workplace. The qualification is also intended to stimulate and interest our pupils, enabling them to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of a wide range of industry standard computer applications that are beneficial across the curriculum The course supports achievement of functional skills and relates to national occupational standards thereby providing an ideal progression into work or further education. It will equip and provide pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to start work, or progress to further study.

Differentiation:

Differentiation is achieved through coursework. Pupils commence the course in Year 9 thus enabling them to achieve the OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT, a qualification that is equivalent to 2 GCSEs grade A to C in the subject. Assessment is continuous as they work they way through the units. Pupils will produce up to four internally marked and externally verified units. The units will consist of paper based and electronic evidence. The online evidence and marking are proving to be a great learning curve in organisation and presentation skills for our pupils. Across the school the increased capability in the use of ICT supports initiative and independent learning across all subjects.

Lynn Grove achieved excellent OCR results in 2008 with over 98% of the cohort completing the course successfully.

Award:
