The Diploma in IT

The Diploma in IT has begun in September 2009. This diploma is an exciting and flexible qualification for 14-19 year olds, designed in partnership with universities and employers. It reflects the blend of business, technical and interpersonal skills needed in modern IT professional roles.

It provides an inspiring, relevant curriculum which is brought to life with real world materials. The Diploma in IT students will develop a mix of business, technical and interpersonal skills. Pupils will acquire the knowledge and competencies to progress to higher education, an apprenticeship or employment.

At Higher level students will cover:

Principal learning – to develop knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to the IT sector, using realistic contexts and leading-edge learning materials and study approaches.

Generic learning – to ensure students have requisite skills in English, maths and ICT user skills. Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills, as well as an extended project, also form part of generic learning.

Additional and Specialist Learning – to allow students to tailor their learning to specific areas of interest. This may involve, for example, taking an additional qualification in a related subject.

 

Differentiation & Award

Differentiation will be through a combination of both Internal and external assessments. The qualification of the Higher Diploma in IT is worth 7 GCSEs (A*-C)
