ICT Programme of Study: Year 7 and 8 Print

Lynn Grove is offering the ICT Framework by timetabling students for 2 - 50 minute ICT lessons each week. Students are taught in mixed ability class sets of 22 - 26 students.

Year 7 and Year 8 students are taught using an enhanced version of the National Strategy units called Smart Skills Builder. In addition to these resources are new materials developed by teaching staff, designed specifically to maximise the ICT resources available at Lynn Grove. These materials include support for new curriculum developments such as Functional Skills and technological advancements offered by our Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. In preparation for future changes in 2012, students from Year 7 now complete a Functional Skills exam.

Working closely with our partner middle schools, we are able to ensure a smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7. This is achieved through a two way process of sharing resources and adapting the curriculum to maintain continuity and enhance learning through more focused materials

All students are set target grades, calculated using average Key Stage 2 scores from middle school data. Using this information and in discussion with the teacher, students will be given a challenge grade set by the teacher (usually higher than their target grade) and will set themselves a personal challenge grade.

At the end of each unit of work, both students and teachers evaluate the work produced and a Key Stage level is allocated. Throughout the year, this level is one indicator used to monitor their progress in addition to individual feedback given during lessons and assessed work.

Differentiation:

Where relevant, students will be given tasks which have been adapted for differing ability levels. More able students will be set extension tasks requiring greater problem solving, analysis and evaluation skills. Less able students will be set comparable tasks with more guidance. Differentiation will also be assessed by outcome.
