Introduction

The following courses are followed:

Year 8

The course is divided into 4 modules:

  1. Map and Atlas Skills
  2. Tropical Environments
  3. Rivers and River Management
  4. Weather and Climate

Year 9

The course divides into 2 broad areas:

  1. Development
  2. Environmental Issues

The theme of development is studied through units on:

  • Measuring differences between rich and poor countries
  • Investigating why some countries are more developed than others
  • Looking at globalization and deciding whether it is a good or bad thing
  • A case study of Japan

Environmental issues are studied locally, nationally and globally; firstly through tourism, and secondly by looking closely at global warming and our responses to it.

Years 10 and 11

EdExcel GCSE Geography A (1312)

Core Units

  1. The Physical World
  2. The Human World
  3. The Economic World
  4. The Natural World

Option Units

  1. Managing the Environment
  2. Managing Tourism

Examinations are Tiered - Higher and Foundation

  1. Paper 1F or 3H on Core Units 1 hour 45 Minutes. 45%
  2. Papers 2F or 4H: an option unit. 1 hour 15 minutes. 30%
  3. Coursework: A Geographical Investigation supported by fieldwork. 25%
