CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

Keyboard Work

All pupils learn and develop keyboard playing skills at their own level from beginners to advanced

Composition

All pupils write a variety of music from basic single line tunes to more advanced work using chords, melody, bass and drums

Listening

Pupils listen to a wide variety of music from all over the world. Classical and pop are given equal billing!

Computer Music

Pupils learn to use the Sibelius program on computers to store and edit their compositions and to listen to music via the Internet.

Acoustic Work

Percussion and guitars, pupils have the opportunity to use these instruments in group work and in composition

Singing

There is a great deal of singing using backing tracks and acoustic instruments. Classes sing pop, folk and classical music often in parts!

ENSEMBLES

Ensembles meet on an ad hoc basis to suit the needs of the players. There have been flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass and string ensembles at various times, as well as a number of rock/pop groups.

INSTRUMENTAL TUITION

Lessons are available at the school in woodwind, strings, brass, guitars and percussion. Pupils who share lessons share the cost. At present the overall cost of instrumental lessons is shared between pupils and the school.
