At the very beginning of the summer term we, at Lynn Grove, welcomed our friends from York (Maine), USA back to England. A year ago, we spent a most enjoyable eight days as guests in York. Our students were given an absolutely fantastic time and were thoroughly spoilt by their hosts. When our friends returned to us, the challenge was to be whether we could spoil them as much as they spoiled us! Highlights of their stay, was a trip to the Pleasure Beach, a wonderful ‘fish and chip’ lunch provided by the Symeou family of the ‘Aloha’ fish bar. Tuesday was a visit to Norwich led by Mr Sadler and Mrs Fowler. Our beautiful Norwich Cathedral was seen as truly ‘awesome’ as was Elm Hill and Chapelfield. On Wednesday after school, Mr Simm led a most enjoyable games session with our mixed company playing volleyball and softball. After the games, our exchange parents prepared a meal in the school hall for well over 100 people. The memory of a full dining hall filled with friends (now for a lifetime) will stay forever. Oh! and the meal was superb mums and dads. A big thank you also to Mr Evans-Webster. On Thursday, at 5.30 a.m., Lynn Grove hosts and American guests went down to London led by Mr Day and Mrs Fowler. The group met up with Yarmouth M.P. Tony Wright and visited the Houses of Parliament. The American guests were then dropped off at their hotel. Much crying and sad farewells. Whilst visiting school, our American friends attended all assemblies and lessons with their English hosts. They were all very positive about the teaching and learning they observed at Lynn Grove. This twinning was the best ever. Mr King is already recruiting from Years 7 and 8 for the next exchange to visit America in summer 2010. |
